Building Better Health: Mallory's Story
Redmon, Mallory Redmon is looking forward to the chance to tweak her own health coverage this open enrollment while she nurses a sore runner’s ankle.
Redmon, a Young Invincible at age 25, last year signed up for a cheap, bare-bones policy through the Connect for Health Colorado marketplace. It gave her economic freedom to find a job with a nutrition company too small to provide coverage. She loves the consumer-directed philosophy of Colorado Health op.
“I would much rather purchase health insurance on my own and be able to pick the company I want to go with than have my employer pick it for me,” she says. “I feel like when you have the ability to choose, it gives the insurance company more reason to provide good customer service.”
But now she needs a little more. A bone spur has cramped her runner’s style. She will seek a lower deductible that will allow her to afford a procedure.
“I can change it November 15,” Redmon said. “So I put the alarm on my phone, and that’s when I’ll pick a new plan.”
